Co-infection of two Ganoderma boninense strains on oil palm seedlings

چکیده
Ganoderma boninense is the basal stem rot disease (BSR) pathogen that devastates oil palm plantations. Disease infection generally occurs by a single strain of G. boninense, or co-infection two strains arises as revealed somatic incompatibility. This study aimed to determine effects somatically incompatible on BSR seedlings. Two were from 2 plantations and had different aggressiveness. Co-infection was performed inoculating rubber wood blocks 3-month-old seedling examined for 7 months. The results showed with similar symptoms, decreased severity (score 1.5 compared 2.0 aggressive strain), growth retardation strain. Higher fungal colonization (92%) roots exhibited in 85‒86% infection. might favor host boninense.

Scytalidium parasiticum sp. nov., a New Species Parasitizing on Ganoderma boninense Isolated from Oil Palm in Peninsular Malaysia
A mycoparasite, Scytalidium parasiticum sp. nov., isolated from the basidiomata of Ganoderma boninense causing basal stem rot of oil palm in Johor, Malaysia, is described and illustrated. It is distinct from other Scytalidium species in having smaller asci and ascospores (teleomorphic stage), longer arthroconidia (anamorphic stage), hyaline to yellowish chlamydospores, and producing a fluoresce...
متن کاملEffect of Endophytic Bacteria on Growth and Suppression of Ganoderma Infection in Oil Palm
Basal stem rot (BSR) caused by Ganoderma boninense is an important disease of oil palm in Malaysia. Control of BSR is complex, because the disease occurs in the dynamic environment at the interface of the roots with soil. Endophytes as biocontrol agents offer possible advantages as they invade and proliferate in the plants to await the pathogens and they are insulated from any adverse condition...
متن کاملThe Phenylpropanoid Pathway and Lignin in Defense against Ganoderma boninense Colonized Root Tissues in Oil Palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq.)
Basal stem rot, caused by the basidiomycete fungus, Ganoderma boninense, is an economically devastating disease in Malaysia. Our study investigated the changes in lignin content and composition along with activity and expression of the phenylpropanoid pathway enzymes and genes in oil palm root tissues during G. boninense infection. We sampled control (non-inoculated) and infected (inoculated) s...

Mating compatibility and restriction analyses of Internal Transcribed Spacer (ITS) regions were performed to determine the relations between Ganoderma boninense, the most common species associated with basal stem rot in oil palm and Ganoderma isolates from infected oil palm, two ornamental palms, sealing wax palm (Cyrtostachys renda) and MacArthur palm (Ptychosperma macarthurii), an isolate fro...
متن کاملDetection and control of Ganoderma boninense: strategies and perspectives
The oil palm, an economically important tree, has been one of the world's major sources of edible oil and a significant precursor of biodiesel fuel. Unfortunately, it now faces the threat of a devastating disease. Many researchers have identified Ganoderma boninense as the major pathogen that affects the oil palm tree and eventually kills it. But identification of the pathogen is just the first...
